Part I
Part II

"There's a huge fly in my room," replied Oscar, "a great buzzing fly. I can't sleep till I drive it out...!"

This is a request from ~Sen-Graham-McGrath. She asked if I still had the comic of Oscar Milde vs. Buzzing Fly from my old GMD website back in 2000, which I did, and if I could re-post it, saying it made her laugh during time she was ill. Naturally, I can't say no to that, so here it is:

After reading David Coakley's biographical book of Oscar Wilde: The Importance of Being Irish, there was a small snippet that had me rolling, which was humourously recollected by an army officer who had been at Trinity College with the real-life Oscar Wilde:
One night we heard a frightful row in his room. Myself and another man rushed to his door. He was half dressed and jumping about the floor. 'What on earth is the matter?" we asked. "There's a huge fly in my room," replied Oscar, "a great buzzing fly; I can't sleep till I drive it out!"
It was an excuse to draw my character of Oscar Milde in a light to which I haven't done. Usually, he's always collected and charming, but here — I could draw him belligerent (for the first time ever) and in a silly nightie (yet another first)! There's something adorable about it...

These are the first few conceptual sketches. Please note that this is an old piece, so please, please be gentle...

Inspiration - Oscar Wilde (Historical) | Models - Peter Egan, Stephen Fry

Medium - Col-Erase Blue.

Poses are great, and I really understand his wish to kill that little buzzer! I remember that one time, one of those buzzer flied up my nose! OOOOOOOOOH! I jumped up my bed running around with a bug spray =_=

Bitter and sticky. And I've tried beetles, mealworms, earthworms, moths, and grasshoppers. They tasted better than an accidentally squished fly in my teeth.

With the rest of the insects I ate, I know where they went. They're safe to eat. That fly....probably ate poo. Blech.

I LOVE these poses. My he certainly isn't 'Mild' here! Of course, a buzzing fly when you're trying to sleep can get on even the meekest person's nerves. Like he's going to get to sleep anyway after having all that adrenaline pumped through his body.

Thanks! I always preferred these poses over the ones my teach chose for the final project. Odd.

I had a horrible experience where a fly flew into my mouth while I was sleeping and I woke up with it squished between my teeth. I used a lot of toothpaste and mouthwash that day.
