Based on novels by Thomas Harris (Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, Manhunter, and Hannibal Rising) and developed for television by Bryan Fuller, the series focuses a gifted criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is hired by Special Agent Jack Crawford (Laurence J. Fishburne III), the head of the FBI's elite Behavioral Science Unit, because of his unique, unprecedented ability to empathize with psychopaths, obsessively pushing Graham to pursue the notorious "Chesapeake Ripper." Upon learning that the mind of this twisted serial killer who hides his kills by copycatting other serial killers proves to be too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of forensic psychoanalyst Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there's no villain they can't catch. If Will only knew...

This series succeeded my expectations due to its exquisite performances, genuine suspense and sinister surprises, masterful writing of well-constructed short and long-term mysteries, and an appropriately disconcerting mood that permeates the action right from the start. I must applaud the art/special effects/culinary departments: It is perhaps one of the most visually scrumptious, deliciously subversive, and gorgeously photographed series on television at the moment! For some reason, there was only two stamps — only two — dedicated to NBC's Hannibal on DeviantArt, so I ended up making my own stamp: This is to pull me over until second season! How that sanctimonious smile mocks us, like a twisting knife to the heart, thus I highly recommend the series — if you can stomach it, teeheehee!
