One Saturday evening, whilst pouring over one of my many note-books, which detail the cases I had worked with Sherringford Basil, I was reminded of another Saturday evening in spring, some years back, when Miss Lillian Violet Wing called upon us a second time for help. Our previous encounter had been when she had fallen victim to a diabolical scheme by her employer's brother — a scheme to frame the lady for the murder of her said employer. As cook of the household, one of the meals had been poisoned, blame naturally fell upon her first; but Basil and I thankfully sorted it out, exposing the true culprit.
