A 'Wilde' Masquerade Ball

Description

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a masque, and he will tell you the truth..."

A flashback on a Basilian forum party, a masquerade ball, Oscar Milde came as, well, very much as himself. In a beautiful, soft brocaded smoking jacket, soft evening trousers, and a caricature masque of his "human" persona. He certainly had a "Wilde" time at the party!

I replaced this picture for a coloured one, which I finished about two hours after I posted this deviation. This would be the first time I ever shade a colouring; I usually have straight colour for my pastiche cast so it would resemble a traditional hand-painted cels. I think I went a little overboard with the shading and had to light up the fur and hair, otherwise, I rather like it.

As for the Wildean masque, I wanted a black-and-white palette to symbolise death and re-birth — from Wilde to Milde. The smoking jacket colours are based off the look of the lounging Oscar Wilde statue in Dublin.
